Sam Whittingham, who lives and works on Quadra Island, BC  has won the $25,000 Decimach prize, riding his Georgiev designed enclosed recumbent bike at over 82 mph or 132 Kph at Battle Mountain, Nevada.

Sam has become well known as the builder of Naked Bicycles, and winner of the grand prize at this year's Handmade Bicycle Show in Portland, Oregon.

While many admired his craftsmanship, few were aware that he has for several years been the fastest cyclist on the planet.

With his latest success that will likely change.

Sam's latest exploits

Vancouver readers who have been to the Velo-City exhibit might have noted that the Diablo III was AWOL. It was out in Michigan, at the Ford Proving Grounds (a 5 mile, dead flat oval) this past weekend, where Sam set a new one hour world record of 90.47 kph. A new women's one hour record was also set by Barbara Buatois at 83.9 kph. Both used the latest Varna, the Tempest. the Diablo III was being used as a stationary trainer.
