One of the few reviews so far of the Kona Ute cargo/longbike.

I haven't ridden one yet but it seems to me a pretty good value in cargo bikes at around $ 900 complete.

Puzzling, though, that it comes with 700c rather than 26 inch wheels.  The small wheels would be stronger and there is a much greater selection of wide road tires, which any cargo bike should benefit from, in the 26 inch size.

Some have criticised the Ute's rack design since it is not compatible with XtraCycle accessories, but if you have or intend to use standard panniers this design makes good sense.  Plus there is a large rack-top space for large or oddly shaped cargo.

Although not its intended use, I can see this bike making an excellent extended/heavy touring bike.  The long wheelbase would make for a smooth ride and the integrated rack guarantees a secure mount for all the stuff that some cyclists carry with them.  Add a front rack for a bit more capacity/balance and you should be good to go anywhere, without the complication of towing a trailer.

Now if only they made a recumbent version...
