New RAV / Canada Line Bridge Bike Path Progresses

yeah!

Richmond and South on the left, Vancouver and north on the right.

The bike path is hidden on the far (west) side. New bridge spans the north arm of the Fraser river, from Kent and Cambie on the Vancouver side, to River rd. and Van Horne Way in Richmond.

This bridge bike path will be easily accessible from the south end of the Ontario bike route. For most East side cyclists going to Richmond it should be a preferred alternative to the Knight Street bridge path. That route has terrible access and dangerous crossings by the Mitchell Island access road, often used by heavy trucks.

render

Plan drawings. Precise alignment of ramp to path may change. VACC and some city councilors want a straight approach from near Marine Dr. rather than the planned spiral from Kent St. TranLink board is still reviewing proposed change.

happy

Artist's conception of happy cyclists and pedestrians on the path. Note that the rail guideway provides a protective roof and concrete wall shelters users from easterly (usually bad weather) winds. The built path will not have the diagonal supports shown in the artist's drawing. It will be a 3.5 metre wide and unobstructed path.

Update to come

Thanks Stephen.

I am planning on doing a bit of an update once the ramp on the Richmond end of the bike path has been completed.  Seems to be moving along fairly quickly - might be within a couple of weeks or so.
