Lawyers bike to work for Access to Justice

Vancouver, B.C. -- Almost two dozen lawyers in bike helmets and billowing black robes surprised morning commuters and curious pedestrians as they cycled from downtown's Library Square to the Law Courts on Robson Street to promote awareness of the need for access to justice.

From their previously released press release:

Mobile Massage goes Green

Gearing Up for Bike To Work Week

Tania with her massage chair trailer

Tania Marshall, who operates a mobile chair-massage company, was driving to clients four times a week. Now she has traded her four wheel car for a two wheel bike and a trailer to carry her equipment.

“I love the fact that I can cycle, enjoy the fresh air, and get some exercise while avoiding the usual traffic and parking problems,” says Marshall. “It took some time to find the right trailer but I was determined.”

Tania is not new to hitting the streets with her bike. While working as a sales rep for a large corporation 10 years ago, she would roll up her polyester dress, fold up the sandals and off to Burnaby from Vancouver she would go.

Toronto Transit Strike a blessing in disguise for local Bike Stores

It seems there's nothing like the threat of a Transit Strike to get people on bikes. That's how I got started in 2001.

Curbside Cycle in Toronto reports that they broke all previous sales records, thanks to shoppers motivated by a possible Toronto Transit strike. On Sunday, they broke that record.

The Community Bicycle Network has also sold more bikes than anticipated for the month of April.

I guess that means a lot more people have bikes to participate in Bike Month beginning May 28th!

BIKEOSPHERE Art & Fashion Show - Call for Submissions

BIKEOSPHERE Art & Fashion Show

Call for Submissions

“I’ve been riding my bike more, and it’s amazing; taking side streets and seeing all the other cyclists riding along. Away from the cars, I feel like I’m in another world!”

We know it’s not all rosy in the ‘Bikeosphere’ – but it's certainly a separate reality from life in the ‘Carniverse.’

The purpose of the Bikeosphere Art Show is to collect and share visions of that separate reality: the alternate universe we inhabit when we ride our bicycles to get around.
What sights do you see?
What joys and challenges do you experience?
What epiphanies arise through traveling under your own power?

Momentum will present the BIKEOSPHERE art & Fashion Show July 18 – 24 at Vancouver’s Ayden Gallery.

Selections from the show will be included in the July/August issue of Momentum. We invite artists from across North America to submit work to the Bikeosphere Art Show. Everyone is welcome to participate and create art for this show (even if you don’t call yourself an artist).
